kat stratford’s reading list

Hello, Bookworms, I’m not an enormous film enthusiast, but 10 Things About You is a film I will never quit raving about. Is it mainly due to the man, the Greek god, my god Heath Ledger? I guess we may never know…However, to give props where it’s due, the movie would not be a masterpiece without Kat Stratford, the female lead, an absolute beauty of a character. She also happens to be an avid reader, and we all know I had to take note of the books she mentioned immediately. As she happens to be a fellow Aquarius as well, this is another reason I MUST read all these titles, turn myself into Kat..and naturally manifest a man like Health into my life. Simple enough, right?

This list is a compilation of books mentioned and featured in the film, and I think Kat would immensely enjoy a few. I’ve read a few of these, but I will certainly be taking inspiration from the list as a whole.

  1. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
  2. The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan
  3. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
  4. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
  5. The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir
  6. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
  7. A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf
  8. Villette by Charlotte Brontë
  9. Tess of the D’urbervilles by Thomas Hardy
  10. The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
  11. The Awakening by Kate Chopin
  12. The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
  13. Orlando by Virginia Woolf
  14. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  15. Of Woman Born : Motherhood as Experience and Institution by Adrienne Rich
  16. The War on Choice by Gloria Feldt
  17. The Female Eunuch by Germaine Greer
  18. The M Word: Conversations About Motherhood by Kerry Clare
  19. Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Woman by Susan Faludi
  20. The Colour Purple by Alice Walker
  21. Beloved by Toni Morrison
  22. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
  23. The Woman Destroyed by Simone De Beauvoir
  24. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
  25. The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis
Don’t mind me, I’m not at all wanting to teleport into this image…not at all

Thanks for reading.

  5. This film is such a throwback to A-Level English class when we watched it because we were studying ‘The Taming of the Shrew,’ on which the film is loosely based 😄
