my favourites: books i’ll always come back to

Hello Bookworms, I’m honestly not sure if I have a post where I’ve compiled all my favourites in one. It may be scattered across the blog, but I MUST detail strictly which books my soul is tied to…the universe has to know. Can anyone really explain precisely why I fell so deeply in love with some of these titles? I surely can’t. That’s something I love about reading; yes, the writing, the plot the actual book itself evidently will affect the reader’s enjoyment. But other times, there’s something so special about a specific novel that you can’t explain. Logically would I put my life on the line if this bundle of PAPER was in peril…yes. And don’t question it.

The Percy Jackson Series and The Heroes of Olympus

Honestly, don’t they look beautiful? This series brings a tear to my eyes. Look at them glowing in the sun. Just imagine the sun..it’s the thought that counts. I cannot pick a favourite among these. If I don’t see these books hung in the Louvre SOON…I may lose it.

I do indeed believe I am the number one Percy Jackson stan. No, I will not accept any debate on the matter, bear this as reality, and all will be well. Amongst the series, my particular standouts are The Mark of Athena and The House of Hades. Indeed just a work of art. Chef’s kiss, as chef’s kiss a kiss could be..this is that.

From left to right; The Glass Castle, Awake and Dreaming and Lolita. Three very different yet astounding books in their own right. There’s something about the way Awake and Dreaming felt like a fever dream to little me when I first read it that I still cannot get over. I remember sitting in the Indigo, most likely around age 11, devouring the entire thing. It was hard to control myself as I did when I would enter that Indigo, but of course, this book made it all the easier.

I’m reasonably sure that you guys can tell this list isn’t structured particularly well by this point. I like to call it going with the flow; perhaps you’ve heard of it, but for the sake of the list, let’s imagine this was all part of a grand plan of following fate rather than my questionable choices. Regardless, another selection of beauties is pictured; The Cruel Prince, Looking for Alaska and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I feel like a noob even typing this, but I don’t think you guys understand the amount of joy I feel even looking at their covers. I’m like a proud parent who loves their kids so much they are willing to keep them locked in a bookshelf for life; nobody else deserves to see them…ALL MINE!

Once again, from left to right, the titles are Where the Crawdads Sing, Queen of Shadows and Mortality. My choice of books to display together seems almost purposeful with their genre differences; however, trust me when I say it isn’t. I’m assuming many of you have heard of the first book; having been made into a film, I think it’s safe to say it’s reached quite a lot of people. Queen of Shadows is a part of one of my favourite fantasy series, another series I made my personality in Junior High (this seems to be a pattern). And Mortality was a book I read early last year; MAN, what a book! Of course, this is truly up to the reader in how they perceive the author’s words, but I loved it.

Well, maybe this list has some semblance of a structure after all because although it’s similar to picking a favourite child, I may have unintentionally just picked. Saved the best for last, as some say(even thinking this is painful. I can’t, I LOVE THEM ALL EQUALLY; I WON’T CHOOSE YOU CANNOT MAKE ME). I won’t even begin to discuss these, and I have pages upon pages I could say about each. You can find a review of most of these titles on my blog, and for those, I haven’t reviewed, I certainly plan on.

And here’s a small list of my favourite authors, just for fun; you are welcome. I must add that Uncle Rick is always first. I wonder if he knows the number of lives he’s genuinely affected. At the very least, he helped me discover a phase that was quite interesting for me. Let’s set the scene. Picture Ontario; Erin is between the ages of 10-12. To be quite frank, my memory is horrific. Back to the scene, I am imagining, so I would picture I was in this series; being Percy Jackson obviously. Forcing my little sister to come along with me as we walk up and down our street for hours on end. This little event repeats daily for a long time. I will not detail the exact length lest I be sent to a mental asylum. Anyway, I would play this pretend game (the most fun of my life) with my sister, where we would transport ourselves into that universe through a little portal known as my neighbour’s garage. Obviously, the norm would follow: fighting monsters, conquering the world, you know how it goes.

King alert……….

To highlight some other authors I adore, I’m unfortunately taking the spotlight away from Rick for just a minute. Holly Black, Khaled Hosseini and Jonathan Safran Foer are all phenomenal writers that I have to mention. Additionally, Margaret Atwood(my queen), Emily Henry and Ruth Ware; I am the floor, on my knees for these women. So immensely blessed with the ability that they continue to publish masterpiece after masterpiece, and I remain in awe.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I have no idea how its possible but I haven’t managed to read any of the Percy Jackson books yet 🙈 they’re on my must read list for 2024 though. Queen Of Shadows is one of my favourite TOG books. I love them all so picking just one is hard but that one is definitely a strong contender. And I adore The Cruel Prince.
