Mini Reviews – Silvered Serpents, People We Meet on Vacation & All of Us Villains

Hello Bookworms, if you have read the title, you can easily guess what type of a post this is. Yes, you are indeed correct. It is MINI-REVIEW TIME! This post is quite unprecedented, as I legitimately want to marry every single book here. Is it possible to marry a book? I don’t care; I’ll do it. Anyway, I’d recommend every single book featured here, and if you only read contemporary or only read fantasy, don’t fret; there is a book here for you.

The Silvered Serpents (The Gilded Wolves, #2) by Roshani Chokshi

Summary:

They are each other’s fiercest love, greatest danger, and only hope.

Séverin and his team members might have successfully thwarted the Fallen House, but victory came at a terrible cost — one that still haunts all of them. Desperate to make amends, Séverin pursues a dangerous lead to find a long lost artifact rumoured to grant its possessor the power of God.

Their hunt lures them far from Paris, and into the icy heart of Russia where crystalline ice animals stalk forgotten mansions, broken goddesses carry deadly secrets, and a string of unsolved murders makes the crew question whether an ancient myth is a myth after all.

As hidden secrets come to the light and the ghosts of the past catch up to them, the crew will discover new dimensions of themselves. But what they find out may lead them down paths they never imagined.

A tale of love and betrayal as the crew risks their lives for one last job.

My thoughts :

Here is my review of the first book!

thanks to macmillan for the arc ♡

I have been following this series(NOW A TRILOGY? PINCH ME!) from the beginning, and each installment keeps getting better. Roshani is such a talented author, and the choices amaze me each time; the way she develops her characters is just so satisfying to read. Although, I’ll admit that when I originally finished this book….I wanted to give it one star…and not for the reasons you may be thinking. That ENDING destroyed me. So, although I strongly strongly strongly recommend this book and this entire series, if you want to keep your heart intact, STAY AWAY.

The sequel did not ~ruin~ me as much as The Gilded Wolves did, but I do not doubt that the next book will. Compared to the first book, The Silvered Serpents delved into the characters so much more; it was genuinely heart-breaking(not suitable for sensitive people).

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I cannot even put into words how much I adore the cast of characters. Each one is so different from the other; it’s almost impossible to compare them. I would try saying that those who love Six of Crows should read this, but I don’t even want to compare it to another series. This series is just so unique and beautiful in itself. Read it for that.

People We Meet on Vacation eBook : Henry, Emily: Amazon.ca: Kindle Store

Summary:

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

My thoughts :

yes yes yes. yes yes oh and YES!

THIS IS EVERYTHING. THIS BOOK LOOKED INTO MY HEAD, UNDERSTOOD EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED AND FRICKEN DELIVERED.

I’ve never been a reader who can rate a book high or immensely enjoy a book if it doesn’t create a deeper connection with me by the end. So if I read a contemporary, I’m probably not just reading it to get exactly what the synopsis said. Instead, I want to relate to the characters, learn about them, pity them, all that good stuff. And this contemporary romance o m g. this one was so good. Put aside all the adorable tropes and friends to lovers storyline, both the main characters were written so well; I loved how much we learned about them and their past, but there is still so much we don’t know.

Long story short, Emily Henry officially has my heart and my soul. Please, all I want in return are more books.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Overall, these characters have something special. I’d recommend this for those who love a quick and cute contemporary that might not be as surface level as it seems. This book holds a lot more depth than it shows, and if you are a reader who enjoys that additional intensity, this book is for you.

All of Us Villains (All of Us Villains, #1) by Amanda Foody

Summary:
You Fell In Love With The Victors of The Hunger Games.
Now Prepare To Meet The Villains of The Blood Veil

After the publication of a salacious tell-all book, the remote city of Ilvernath is thrust into worldwide spotlight. Tourists, protesters, and reporters flock to its spellshops and ruins to witness an ancient curse unfold: every generation, seven families name a champion among them to compete in a tournament to the death. The winner awards their family exclusive control over the city’s high magick supply, the most powerful resource in the world.

In the past, the villainous Lowes have won nearly every tournament, and their champion is prepared to continue his family’s reign. But this year, thanks to the influence of their newfound notoriety, each of the champions has a means to win. Or better yet–a chance to rewrite their story.

But this is a story that must be penned in blood.

My thoughts :

thank you to the publisher for the arc!

Here’s a quick look into my thoughts two seconds after I finished reading it :

are..you KIDDING ME? WHO SIGNED OFF ON THAT ENDING BECAUSE I JUST WANT TO TALK.

This book, although it somewhat frustrated me in some parts, was insane. Simply insane. The ending makes me want to yell at the top of my lungs, rip ALL my hair out, and THROW THIS BOOK INTO THE OCEAN. There are so many parts to this book that it’s almost hard to keep track(in a good way). We have: morally grey characters, tournament to the….death, antiheroes, magical retelling of the hunger games….OH YES.

For a quick synopsis, this book deals with generationsold history, traditions, high magic and it’s all interwoven in an action-packed, intriguing and villainous storyline.

If he was truly a monster, then why was he so afraid?

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Read this if you loved The Hunger Games, are a fan of any of the tropes I mentioned and if you…..like reading good books?! Seems like an easy choice to me.

Plus…I have an author interview coming to my blog in a few weeks! So keep your eyes peeled for that if you want some insight into the authors’ inspiration and challenges when writing the book!

Thanks for reading! Have you read any of these books? Did you enjoy them?

  1. people we meet in vacation sounds amazing, but i don’t know if it would be my type of book. i love friends to lovers, but i prefer romance in the more quirky/steamy side that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and this one seems like a more *intense* type of romance hahah but i’d definitely consider reading it whenever i go to a beach vacation! sounds like the perfect scenery to match the vibe of the story!

  3. I’m currently reading People We Meet on Vacation [although for some reason it’s called You and Me on Vacation in Australia…?] and I’m predicting that it’s going to be WAY better then Beach Read. Poppy and Alex have such a refreshing dynamic and the vibes are ✨immaculate✨. So glad you enjoyed it!

Side note: I can’t tell you how good it feels to be reading your posts again! I went MIA for a while there [things have been CRAZY in Melbourne – we’re on lockdown #6 – and I needed to step away for a while]. Can’t wait to catch up with you in the comments again! How have you been? Hope things are a little better where you are! 💙
